Vocalist Steve Berndt has performed in a wide variety of ensembles including big band, jazz combo, 4 part jazz vocal groups, rock and pop bands and background vocalist since graduating from the Humber College Music Program, Toronto, in 1985.
As lead singer with his band The Jivewires, Steve has recorded 6 albums of original “jump blues” music and toured throughout Canada & the United Kingdom as well as the Northeastern United States.
Recently Steve has recorded two vocal/piano jazz albums with Steinway Artist Brian Browne that have both received ongoing rotation on CBC’s national jazz program “Tonic” since 2012 and enthusiastic reviews by well known jazz critic Scott Yanow of the Los Angeles Jazz Scene.
Steve has produced many vocal based shows at The National Arts Centre during his career, the latest being a very demanding revue of vocalese duets called “An Evening Of Vocalese” with Ottawa jazz singer Christine Fagan in the tradition of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. Steve has also performed as a backup singer with popular artist Amanda Marshall.
