Ken Harper

Ken HarperKen Harper – Ken started playing the drums at the age of 5. He performed regularly with high school bands, orchestras, choirs and studied for 5 seasons at Inter Provincial Music Camp. He has studied music at both Humber College and York University where he attained an Hon. B.F.A in performance and history of modern jazz under scholarship from Oscar Peterson.

Starting in 1986 Ken studied with legendary jazz drummer Jim Blackley for 3 years. Jim’s musical approach to drumset and snare drum playing influences Ken’s teaching and performances to this day.

Having spent years in lounge bands on cruise ships as well as many years on the road with Garden Brothers Circus and other productions, Ken has a vast array of experience to draw from.

Although a jazz drummer at heart, Ken is also widely regarded as a first call bodhran player in traditional Irish music circles throughout Canada.
