In this workshop you’ll learn some basic jazz chords for the ukulele, including some nifty tricks that will help you navigate common chord sequences found in jazz standards. We’ll also cover some basic right hand techniques that will help your strumming achieve the ‘swing’ sound.
Level: Experienced beginners and up. Chord diagrams will be provided on handouts.
Instructor: Diane Nalini is an award-winning jazz singer and songwriter. She has released four critically-acclaimed albums, with a fifth album just released. Diane has performed at jazz festivals around the world, and given gala performances for President Bill Clinton and Sir Paul McCartney. An accomplished songwriter, composer, and lyricist, Diane has written or co-written songs that have been used in major Hollywood releases, indie films, television shows and video games. Since then, she’s been studying with ukulele maestros Sarah Maisel and Craig Chee, and has also taken advanced workshops with jazz ukulele legend Benny Chong. More recently, she’s started teaching at ukulele festivals. In 2019, she taught at the Strathmore UkeFest in Maryland and she will teach at the MidWest Uke Camp in Michigan in 2020. Diane recently launched the website Ukulele For Jazz Singers, a free resource for people who want to learn jazz chords on ukulele.
