Secrets of great jazz phrasing

Dynamic phrasing and time are at the heart of great jazz singing. One of Canada’s foremost jazz vocalists and teachers, Vancouver’s Kate Hammett-Vaughan leads this interactive group workshop, exploring a variety of simple techniques to improve singers’ phrasing, interpretation, and communication with their audiences and instrumentalists.  Hand-outs will be provided.

Plus Private Lessons before and after the workshop $50/hr or $35/30 min.

JAZZ STANDARDS WORKSHOP May 2nd 2009

Gain a fresh perspective on singing standards in this supportive and friendly workshop with Juno-nominated artists Kate Hammett-Vaughan (voice) and Bill Coon (guitar). Participants will perform a song of their choice and receive helpful feedback that will transform their immediate performance and give them long-term material to work with. Bring a chart for your song, a sense of adventure, and an open mind! Limited to 10 singers, so sign up early!
