The guitar ensembles are directed by Tim Bedner.
What is a guitar ensemble? A group of 4 to 8 guitars, plus rhythm guitar, bass and drums. Each guitar has their own part to play.
What style of music? The ensemble will be playing arrangements specifically written for guitar ensemble, the music includes contemporary, jazz, original and classical.
What level of reading ability is expected? Be able to read up to the 5th position on the guitar. Sight reading is not necessary. The ensemble will work together on improvisation skills, playing as a unit, and reading.
Guitar Ensemble 1 will work on improvisation, reading, rhythm, and working on a jazz standards repertoire. Guitar ensemble 1 is a pre-requisite to ensemble 2. Guitar Ensemble 2 will build upon the skills learned in Level 1 developing advanced improvisation, chord voicings, reading and rhythm, and working on a jazz fusion repertoire. Pre-requisite Guitar Ensemble 1 or by permission of the instructor.
The Guitar Ensemble provides excellent experience for guitarists as they work on improvisation skills, reading skills and learn to blend their sound.
