Drumset/Percussion - Sandy Hunter is our drumset and percussion instructor. Sandy has a Bachelor of Music in Percussion from the University of Ottawa. While there he studied with Ken Simpson, principle percussionist for the NACO and Jonathan Wade, percussionist/timpanist with the NACO and O.S.O.
Sandy is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher who has taught drumset and percussion at Academie Musique de Montreal, Ecole Secondaire Publique De La Salle, Tutti Music, Melodium Music and Granata Music.
Sandy tailors drumset lessons to individual students to ensure they learn proper technique along with rock, pop, Latin or jazz beats. Sandy also coaches students on how to play within a band situation, how to develop listening skills and interaction with other musicians.
Sandy is a performing musician and currently plays with Bluestone. Other rock bands he has played with include Channel One, Q-Public, thirteen, Blues Skies, Liquor Store Bandits, Greg Pilon and Anode.
Sandy has performed jazz with The Mary Dawood Quarter, 4th Floor and Yves Laroche Trio. Sandy has performed (percussion) with the Heart House Orchestra, the Ottawa Community Orchestra as well as the Ottawa University Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble.
Sandy also teaches percussion sectionals and workshops for middle and high school bands.
