Trumpet Instructor - Nicholas Dyson is a professional musician and experienced music educator. He teaches all levels of trumpet from beginner to advanced including preparation for University auditions and Royal Conservatory exams. 

Nicholas has developed several curriculum's to help his students obtain a solid foundation in music from which to build their skills upon. He is an encouraging and motivated instructor focusing on his students individual needs and guiding them to higher playing levels using his extensive resource of teaching materials.

Nicholas studied music and music education at Boise State University focusing on trumpet performance with Marcellus Brown and Brad Peters, jazz studies with Ritchard Maynard, Sandon Mayhew and Brent Jensen and

advanced study on "Yoga Complete Breath" with renowned trumpet pedagogue Bobby Shew.


Since relocating to Ottawa, Ontario in 2008, Nicholas Dyson has become the most sought after lead trumpeter in Canada’s Capital region.  He has filled that role with Impressions In Jazz, Gladys Knight, and with the National Arts Centre Orchestra Pops.  Nicholas was a featured soloist with Ottawa Superband for their Tribute to Maynard Ferguson concerts.  Other performances have included People Project, SoulJazz Orchestra, and That's the Spirit.

 

Nicholas has also been active on recordings, contributing to albums by The Yohawks,  That’s The Spirit, and the latest SoulJazz Orchestra album, to be released in 2009.

Nicholas was guest lecturer at Boise schools as well as Boise State University in Boise, Idaho Fall 2009. 

 

In addition to maintaining a growing trumpet studio at Alcorn Music Studios, and begin active as a clinician in both the Ottawa-Carleton and Ottawa-Catholic Scholl Boards, Nicholas is also the director of the newly-formed Capital Youth Jazz Orchestra.  CYJO is a university-level honours big band, made up primarily of students from University of Ottawa, Carleton University and Conservatoire de Musique de Gatineau.   

 

Prior to moving to Ottawa, Nicholas spent a number of years as Musical Director and Lead Trumpet of orchestras in the Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival Cruise Lines.  Other notable performances in and around his ship schedule were Nathalie Cole, The Moody Blues, Deborah Gibson, Richie Cole's Alto Madness Orchestra, The Temptations, Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Riverside Jazz Orchestra, Opera Idaho and Boise Philharmonic.
